“He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself; he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son.  And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.  And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we shall ask anything according to His will, He heareth us: And we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.” 1 John 5:10-15

Today’s Christian daily devotional

Recently, I was contacted by an alternative healing website.  They stumbled across some of the healing prayers I had written on
www.shalombewithyou.com.
The owner of the website wanted me to write up some prayers for people who were struggling in every way (emotional, physical and spiritual healing). Of course, like any new writer, the invitation was flattering and exciting…until I read the fine print! The only stipulation they had was to omit the name of Jesus Christ in all my prayers.

I know that this was to avoid offending those who aren’t in agreement with the God that I pray to. Like any wise business person, they wanted to make the prayers palatable and accessible to people of all faiths—this would only include a larger audience, of course! I can’t really blame them for thinking with their heads.

But, there is one thing that these savvy website owners failed to consider.  My personal faith runs DEEP and that is a matter of my heart, not my head.  The words I write are not just empty thoughts on paper or a computer screen.  They are the actual language of my heart to a God whom I love very deeply.

If I were to omit honoring the God I pray to, not only would I be pulling the power plug out of my prayers, I would be insulting Him immensely.

In this day and age, many people are afraid of offending others. Unfortunately there seems to be very little regard to hurting, insulting or offending God Himself.

After overcoming much in my life, I cannot help but feel an affinity towards ministries and organizations that help heal people.

But, my personal relationship with God and my faith is uncompromising. I truly want to honor Him with not only my words but also my actions.

Sadly, this means I will have to decline another paycheck. But in the end, I can lay my head down at night and know that nothing is worth knowingly causing more pain  to a God who has been so good to me; despite the fact I have hurt Him millions of times throughout my life.

“Dear Heavenly Father,

Sometimes in all your greatness, I forget that I have the power to hurt you.  This is the most painful part about loving an imperfect human—they can always inflict on the ones that care for them.

First off, I must thank you for your patience.  You have been so good to me, despite my unlovely qualities. Thank you that your mercy is so great and your love is even greater.

I want to acknowledge how much I love you by the very fabric of my life.  Although it may not be perfect, I want it to perfectly express my devotion to you.

In a world that is heavy with compromise, help me not to be seduced by that mentality.  Bowing to the world’s ways may make it “easier” for me initially, but in the end, it will put a wedge between us.  Nothing is worth that to me anymore.  I am so sorry it took me so long to learn that.

Today, I want to rededicate my life to you.  Breathe fresh life into my lungs. Show me just how much you love me so I can be so filled to the brim. I will allow that overflow to touch the lives of those who are deceived into thinking you have forgotten them.

Lord, let them feel your love and know it was not you that forgot them, but the other way around.

Show them how great your love is.  In Jesus’ precious, powerful and limitless name, Amen!”
